Postbiotics are an emerging health-promoting ingredient that is gaining traction among consumers. As the #1 postbiotic brand, EpiCor® postbiotic is a fully fermented food clinically proven to support immune and gut health.
The story of EpiCor® creation has been passed down from generation to generation, inspiring many later discoveries. Let’s find out this interesting story with AN Care Pharma!
1. Interesting discovery about fermented foods
At the end of the nineteenth century, C.W. Bloomhall, a boy who lived on the family farm, noticed that animals fed fermented leftovers with yogurt appear to be healthier than animals fed simply cereal.
After quitting his job in the milling industry in 1943, Bloomhall decided to test his theory – that fermented foods offer unique health benefits. He founded the company Diamond V ® to develop a specialized fermentation process to create an ingredient that improves animal health and performance.
The Diamond V brand is now owned by Cargill and is a highly regarded brand for unique microbial fermentation products aimed at improving animal health worldwide.
2. Fast forward to 1998: EpiCor® Discovery
Factory employees at Diamond V’s production facility, who were in daily contact with fermented animal feed, did not use much of their sick leave.
Why do factory workers take less sick leave than their colleagues who work in the office? To find out, Diamond V conducted pilot studies comparing factory workers with a similar group of office workers. And, those studies showed that the fermented product supported the immune health of exposed factory workers.
After years of clinical research to prove its safety and effectiveness in humans, EpiCor ® postbiotic was born! Today, people around the world trust EpiCor ® postbiotics to support their immune system and gut health.
3. How was EpiCor® born?
Made in the USA, EpiCor® postbiotic is manufactured in a state-of-the-art facility that follows all applicable Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) as certified by the NSF inspection organization.
The EpiCor manufacturing process begins with the baker’s yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, providing it with a proprietary culture solution of natural, plant-based ingredients. The yeast then undergoes a specialized fermentation process in which hypoxic conditions cause them to produce beneficial metabolites.
The final manufacturing step uses a proprietary and gentle drying process to inactivate yeast (NO live yeast or other organisms in EpiCor® postbiotic) and preserve the complex of metabolites produced during the fermentation process.
EpiCor® postbiotic is considered a “whole food” fermented product because nothing is extracted or refined – using the whole wort used for fermentation and lightly drying into a powder. The whole dehydrated fermenter is then ground to a fine powder and packaged in containers designed to protect the yeast during storage and handling.
After extensive safety and format testing, EpiCor® postbiotic is recognized as a fully fermented food yeast that helps support the immune system and positively regulate the gut microbiota.
